Jewel cancels upcoming tour due to death of bass player

In the wake of the sudden death of her bass player, singer-songwriter Jewel has called off her upcoming scheduled tour of North America.

According to Atlantic Records, Terome "T-Bone" Hannon suffered a stroke last week, and died on Sept. 4 in his hometown of Detroit. Hannon, who was 39, had been a member of Jewel's live band for three years.

"T-Bone was a phenomenal player and we all loved him," Jewel said in a statement. "We are all just in shock and hurt."

The tour was scheduled to get underway on Sept. 19 in North Charleston, SC. According to her publicist, Jewel has canceled all of her upcoming concerts with her band, but plans are in the works for her to play a limited number of solo-acoustic shows.

Jewel's latest album, "0304," was released in June.
