Hoobastank returns to helm October's Nokia Unwired Tour
Alt-rockers Hoobastank , The All-American Rejects , Ozomatli and Diffuser --all bands that have contributed music for a new Nokia cell phone--join forces in October for the 20-city Nokia Unwired Tour.
The outing, which gets underway in Toronto and hits most major North American markets, is tied to the promotion of the Nokia 3300 cell phone. The phone features an MP3/AAC player (pre-loaded with recordings by acts on the tour), an FM stereo radio and a full messaging keypad.
Hoobastank was recently forced to cancel its August-September tour with Die Trying and Letter Kills after guitarist Dan Estrin was involved in a motorcycle accident late last month.
"We were riding these little mini-motorbikes around the parking lot, and Dan drove into a dark roped-off area by the buses," vocalist Doug Robb said in a statement. "The rope caught him in the chest and he fell and hit his head pretty hard on the ground."
Hoobastank is scheduled to release its as-yet-untitled sophomore album--which was produced by Howard Benson (P.O.D., Blindside)--on Dec. 2.
The Oklahoma-based All-American Rejects independently released their self-titled debut last year, and it was later reissued by DreamWorks Records.
Latin jazz-funk outfit Ozomatli, which hasn't released a new album since 2001, is scheduled to issue a limited-edition EP titled "Coming Up" on Sept. 23, and a full LP is expected in early 2004, according to the band's official website.
Diffuser is touring behind its second major-label release, "Making the Grade," which was released in July.
