The Eagles remain in flight with fall tour dates, best-of set
The Eagles have mapped out a busy fall that finds them back on the road for another round of "Farewell I" concerts that coincide with the October release of a new hits collection.
Currently on break after finishing up a summer swing through the states, The Eagles return to the stage in early October, and have so far scheduled dates through Oct. 25. Tickets for most of the newly announced shows hit the box office on Saturday (9/6), though members of the band's official fan club will have a shot at pre-sale tickets as early as Tuesday (9/8). Details are posted at the fan club's website.
Sandwiched amid the fall shows is the Oct. 21 release of "Eagles-The Very Best Of." The 33-track, two-disc set features hits such as "Hotel California," "The Best of My Love," "Heartache Tonigh," and "Life in the Fast Lane." Also included is the group's new single, "Hole in the World," and "Please Come Home for Christmas," which was previously available only as a commercial single.
A limited-edition version of "The Very Best Of" will include a bonus DVD featuring the "Hole in the World" music video and behind-the-scenes footage shot during the group's current tour.
In addition to putting together the best-of set, The Eagles are also at work on their first new studio album since 1979's "The Long Run." The group has not revealed a release date for the as-yet-untitled set.
The Eagles' facetiously named "Farewell I" tour kicked off in May. The group's lineup currently consists of Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit.
Backing the quartet on tour are drummer Scott Crago, saxophonist Christian Mostert, and keyboardists Will Hollis and Michael Thompson.
Over the course of their three-decade career, The Eagles have sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, and have garnered four No. 1 U.S. singles and four GRAMMY® awards, according to the group's publicist. Their hits compilation, "Greatest Hits 1971-1975," which has sold over 27 million copies, is the top-selling album of all time in the U.S.
The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
