KISS brings symphony-concert film to the big screen

Face-painted rockers KISS will grace the silver screen in September when a number of movie theaters show a previously recorded concert that teamed the group with Australia's Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Theaters in 21 markets--including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and Washington, DC--will present the High Definition (HD) film on Sept. 9, the same day that a DVD version titled "KISS Symphony: The DVD" arrives in stores.

A list of participating theaters is available at Regal CineMedia's website. Tickets cost $8.50 at the event, but are available for less when purchased in advance at either the venue box office or through Regal CineMedia's website, according to a press release.

The concert video--and the recently released companion audio CD, "The KISS Symphony: Alive IV"--capture the group's Feb. 28 performance with the 60-piece Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the members of which all donned KISS make-up for the event.

Last year, Regal CineMedia broadcast live to numerous movie theaters real-time concerts from Korn and Tom Petty.

KISS is currently on tour with Aerosmith. The group's latest lineup features founding members Gene Simmons (vocals, bass) Paul Stanley (vocals, guitar) and Peter Criss (drums, vocals). Original guitarist Ace Frehley is no longer with the group; replacement guitarist Tommy Thayer impersonates Frehley during the band's live performances.
