Queens of the Stone Age look beyond Red Hot Chili Peppers tour
After they spend much of September opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age set out on their own headlining run.
The group, which hits the road with the Peppers from Sept. 6 until Sept. 25, kicks off a club outing at the end of September, and has so far lined up scattered dates through the end of October.
Before either outing begins, QOTSA will learn whether they've won any Moon Men at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. The group is up for Breakthrough Video, Best Special Effects in a Video and Best Art Direction in a Video for "Go With the Flow," and is also in contention for the fan-chosen MTV2 Award--determined via online voting--for "No One Knows." Information on how to vote is posted at the band's website.
The MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Aug. 28.
"Go With the Flow" and "No One Knows" both appear on the group's most-recent album, "Songs for the Deaf," which surfaced last August.
In addition to scoring its recent MTV2 Award nomination, "No One Knows" picked up a GRAMMY® nomination earlier this year in the Hard Rock Performance category.
QOTSA made its name by way of endless touring, which included slots on the 2000 and 2001 Ozzfest tours. Rocker Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana) also helped nudge the group into the spotlight thanks to numerous interviews in which he spoke about his affinity for the band.
Anchored by founding members Josh Homme (vocals, guitar) and Nick Oliveri (bass), QOTSA's lineup has undergone frequent changes during the group's roughly five-year lifespan. Last summer, Grohl--who played drums on "Songs for the Deaf"--put the Foo Fighters on hold in order to man the drums on QOTSA's summer tour.
That tour's lineup also included former Screaming Trees vocalist Mark Lanegan and A Perfect Circle guitarist-keyboardist Troy Van Leeuwen.
