Briefly: Dave Matthews, Ray Charles, Primus, Dope, Beth Hart
Dave Matthews releases his solo debut album, "Some Devil," on Sept. 23. Stephen Harris, who turned the knobs on the Dave Matthews Band's "Busted Stuff," produced the set.
Among the guest musicians on "Some Devil" are Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio and Matthews' longtime collaborator, guitarist Tim Reynolds. Bassist Tony Hall (Bob Dylan, The Neville Brothers, Willie Nelson) and drummer Brady Blade Jr. (Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Chris Whitley) also make appearances.
Ray Charles has canceled all of the remaining tour dates on his 2003 schedule due to acute hip discomfort.
"It breaks my heart to withdraw from these shows," Charles said in a statement. "All my life, I've been touring and performing. It's what I do. But the doctors insist I stay put and mend for a while, so I'll heed their advice."
The 12-time GRAMMY® winner, who is 72 years old, began to call off shows in late July.
Primus , which has been on hiatus for four years, returns in October with a DVD retrospective titled "Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People," which will be packaged with a CD of five new tracks featuring original Primus drummer Tim Alexander.
The group also plans to tour this fall. Confirmed dates so far include Los Angeles (The Wiltern, Oct. 17), Denver (The Fillmore, Oct. 21) and San Francisco (The Warfield, Oct. 31).
Rockers Dope issue their third album, "Group Therapy," on Oct. 21. The set was produced by the group's Edsel Dope and mixed by Jay Baumgardner (Drowning Pool, Evanescence, Papa Roach).
Singer Beth Hart issues her sophomore album, "Leave the Light On," on Oct. 21. Oliver Leiber--who also worked on Hart's 1999 debut, "Screamin' for My Supper"--produced the set's 11 tracks.
