Built to Spill lays out plans for fall road trip

Alt-rock trio Built to Spill , which hasn't released a new album since 2001, continues to roll out U.S. tour dates.

The group, which played a round of shows in May, will head back out in mid September, and dates so far are scheduled through late October.

The band--Doug Martsch (vocals/guitaris/keys/percussion), Brett Nelson (bass) and Scott Plouf (drums/percussion)--plans to begin recording later this fall a new album that will surface sometime next year. Word is that the upcoming live shows will feature some new material.

Whenever a new album does surface, it will be the Idaho-based group's first since "Ancient Melodies of the Future," which was released in July of 2001.

Following a 2001 tour behind "Ancient Melodies of the Future," Martsch recorded his first solo effort, "Now You Know," which he released last October. He backed the set with a handful of live dates last fall.
