Tour plans unfold for 2002 'American Idol' queen Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson , the 2002 winner of the popular Fox-TV talent-search program "American Idol," has lined up some August tour dates behind her first album, which she released in April.

The set, "Thankful," debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 album chart, and currently sits at No. 13. Its first single, "Miss Independent," is at No. 9 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart.

Clarkson scored her first No. 1 hit, "A Moment Like This," in 2002. The song went on to be the top-selling single of the year.

Also in 2002, Clarkson embarked on a two-month arena tour with the other "American Idol" finalists.

Clarkson's upcoming itinerary so far focuses mainly on the Midwest fair circuit. She will also be among the performers at this year's Teen Choice Awards, which will air on Fox-TV from La Crosse, WI, on Aug. 6.

Besides her musical career, Clarkson parlayed her "American Idol" fame into the feature film "From Justin to Kelly," which also stars 2002 "Idol" runner-up Justin Guarini. The movie was released on June 20, but hasn't fared well with critics or at the box office.

This year's "American Idol" finalists, led by winner Ruben Studdard and runner-up Clay Aiken, are currently on a North American tour.
