Bob Dylan adds three-night stand in New York City to itinerary
Bob Dylan and his band have made plans to give three August performances at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom.
The shows are set for Aug. 12-14, and tickets hit the box office on Friday (7/18) at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. A ticket pre-sale is planned for Thursday. Details are available at Dylan's website.
The New York City engagement follows Dylan's late-July/early-August run with the Dead--a group comprising the surviving members of the Grateful Dead--and a pair of co-headlining shows in New Jersey with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Petty and Dylan were originally scheduled to appear at the Bonnaroo NE festival, but lined up the co-headlining dates after the festival was canceled.
Already in the midst of his own headlining run, Dylan's busy summer schedule includes the opening of the film "Masked and Anonymous," in which he stars, and the release of the film's soundtrack, which contains a newly recorded version of Dylan's "Down in the Flood." Details about the film and the soundtrack are posted at Sony's "Masked and Anonymous" website.
Meanwhile, a documentary film tentatively titled "Bob Dylan Anthology Project"--about the life of the artist--is in the works for a planned 2005 release, director Martin Scorsese and his production company recently announced. The documentary is expected to have a limited theatrical release before it is broadcast on PBS in the U.S. and on BBC in the U.K.
Finally, Columbia/Legacy will release 15 classic albums by Dylan in the hybrid Super Audio CD (SACD) format on Aug. 19. According to a press release, the discs "feature a high-density layer which can provide high-resolution, multi-channel surround sound in addition to a separate two-channel stereo SACD version of the same music, and a layer with a CD version of the recording. The result is a hybrid disc whose full audio potential can be realized by the new generation of SACD players, and which is fully compatible with all other existing CD players on the market today."
