Lee Ann Womack opens new tour, greatest hits set due later this year
Country singer Lee Ann Womack has taken to the road to tackle a series of summer and fall dates at fairs, festivals and casinos.
The outing comes in advance of a new best-of album that is scheduled for release on Oct. 17.
After notching platinum sales with her self-titled 1999 debut, Womack gained fame with her triple-platinum 2000 release "I Hope You Dance," the title track for which was Billboard's 2000 Country Single of the Year and 2001's Adult Contemporary Single of the Year.
In 2002, she followed up with "Something Worth Leaving Behind," an album that met with disappointing sales.
Womack and Willie Nelson earlier this year picked up an Academy of Country Music Award for their duet "Mendocino County Line."
Last month, Womack was in the Middle East to perform a series of USO dates. Among the other celebrities who appeared before U.S. troops in Baghdad, aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and at the Ali al-Salem military base in Kuwait were Kid Rock, Wayne Newton, Alyssa Milano, Brittany Murphy, Gary Sinise, Paul Rodriguez and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
On Sept. 9, MCA will release the tribute album "Remembering Patsy Cline," which features Womack performing "She's Got You."
