Briefly: Farm Aid, Mystikal, All Tomorrow's Parties, The Von Bondies
Sheryl Crow , Brooks & Dunn and Trick Pony have signed on to play sets at this year's Farm Aid benefit, which takes place on Sept. 7 at the Germain Amphitheater in Columbus, OH.
As previously reported, longtime Farm Aid supporters Willie Nelson , Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews are also on the bill.
Rapper Mystikal pleaded guilty on Thursday (6/26) to extortion and sexual battery charges in connection with a 2002 incident at his Baton Rouge, LA, apartment, according to published reports.
He was facing an aggravated rape charge, which could have landed him in prison for life. A Sept. 25 sentencing date has been set for the rapper, who is free on bond.
Mystikal, whose real name is Michael Tyler, was arrested along with two of his friends after his hairstylist--who told police that she came to the rapper's home to braid his hair--claimed that he forced her to form oral sex on him.
"Tyler then contacted two male associates and told them to come to his residence immediately, which they did," police said at the time. "Upon their arrival, Tyler raped the victim in the presence of the other two individuals and again forced her to perform oral sex on him. She was also sexually assaulted by the two men and raped by one of them."
The Los Angeles edition of All Tomorrow's Parties was put on hold earlier this month, and now the New York edition of the eclectic festival--originally scheduled to take place in September--has also been pushed back.
"We have had problems over the past six months trying to find a suitable venue and the search has been compared to George W. Bush's quest for Weapons of Mass destruction in Iraq," said a posting on the event's website. "However, we have made significant progress over the past two weeks and will be announcing details very soon so check the site for more details."
Detroit quartet The Von Bondies have signed a major label recording contract with Sire/Warner Bros. Records, and are currently recording their new album--tentatively scheduled for 2004 release--in San Francisco with producer Jerry Harrison.
The group formed in 2000, and its first album, "Lack of Communication," was produced by Jack White of The White Stripes and issued in 2001.
