Briefly: Pearl Jam, Velvet Revolver, Jeff Beck, Korn, Lollapalooza
Pearl Jam 's planned Thursday (6/19) concert at Cincinnati's Riverbend Music Center has been canceled "due to the unprecedented amount of rain experienced by the entire Ohio Valley over the past several days, and the continued rise of the Ohio River water level," according to a press release.
Velvet Revolver --the new band featuring ex-Guns N' Roses members Slash, Duff McKagen and Matt Sorum, Dave Kushner of Suicidal Tendencies, and Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland--will play its first live show on Thursday night (6/19).
The performance--which takes place at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles--is described by guitarist Slash's website as "a limited (short) set" that "will be a free preview of things to come and will be limited to only a handful of fans."
Tickets to the show were distributed through Slash's fan club.
Guitar wizard Jeff Beck returns with a new album titled "Jeff" on July 22. Andy Wright (Eurythmics, Simply Red) produced.
Beck will support the CD by joining this summer's B.B. King Music Festival.
A new Korn track, "Did My Time," will be featured in the movie "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life," but will not appear on the soundtrack to the film. Instead, the band plans to make the song available for download later this month.
Lollapalooza had been scheduled to open on July 3 at Michigan's Ionia County Fairgrounds, but promoters---citing "staging and technical difficulties with the event site"--have canceled the show.
The tour is now scheduled to open in the Indianapolis area on July 5.
