With new album on the way, Modest Mouse tours clubs
Lo-fi rock band Modest Mouse has mapped out a July club tour, with the Radar Brothers serving as their opening act.
Longtime Modest Mouse members Isaac Brock and Eric Judy, as well as new drummer Benjamin Wiekel, are recording a new full-length album at Sweet Tea Studios in Oxford, Miss., with producer Dennis Herring (Sparklehorse), according to reports.
The release is due in stores mid-September on Epic Records, according the official Modest Mouse website. The group issued "The Moon and Antarctica" for Epic in 2000.
Wiekel (The Helio Sequence) was recruited to replace drummer Jeremiah Green, who left the band earlier this year.
The tour itinerary includes a two-night stand at the House of Blues in Chicago, as well as stops at the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle and the Village Voice Siren Festival in Brooklyn.
At the Village Voice festival, the Issaquah, Wash., band will be joined by the likes of Hot Hot Heat, Sahara Hot Nights, The Kills and Ted Leo.
R.E.M. is headlining this year's Bumbershoot Festival on Labor Day weekend. Black Eyed Peas, Macy Gray, Nickel Creek, Wilco, Rhett Miller and Donovan are among those scheduled to perform.
