Briefly: Steve Earle, Metallica, Sex Pistols, Radiohead, Jack Casady
A DVD documentary covering the period after the release of Steve Earle 's controversial 2002 track "John Walker Blues" is scheduled for release in September.
"John Walker Blues"--which appears on Earle's "Jerusalem" album--was written from the perspective of so-called "American Taliban" John Walker Lindh, and explores how Lindh may have ended up in Afghanistan.
The film, directed by Amos Poe and titled "Just an American Boy," recently premiered in Toronto.
"St. Anger," Metallica 's first album since 1996, sold nearly 418,000 copies during its first week in stores, according to industry sources, and will debut at No. 1 on next week's Billboard 200 album chart. Jewel's "0304" will debut at No. 2.
The Sex Pistols are assembling a summer tour of North America. Two dates are confirmed: Aug. 21 at the Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, N.Y., and Aug. 25 at the Molson Amphitheater in Toronto.
The storied punk rock band--which hasn't toured the U.S. since 1996--features vocalist Johnny "Rotten" Lydon, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and original bassist Glen Matlock.
The group last played the U.S. in September of 2002, when it appeared at a radio festival for Los Angeles-area radio station KROQ.
Radiohead has launched a new Internet "television" station at radiohead.tv. The site will feature webcasts of concerts, footage from the studio and other original programming.
Jack Casady , a founding member of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, will release his debut solo album on June 17. The album, titled "Dream Factor," features 11 new songs.
