Kenny Chesney's road work continues into August
Kenny Chesney --whom the Academy of Country Music recently crowned Top Male Vocalist--continues his road trip behind last year's "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems."
Chesney's itinerary, which now stretches into late August, includes his Thursday (6/5) performance at the 32nd annual Fan Fair festival in Nashville, which will open the four-day event. The singer talked about the event in a recent press release.
"Fan Fair is one of those events where the people we go out and see in their homes all year get to come to our home, and it's always great to have people see where you're from," he said. "To be allowed to be the very first act on the very first day, well, I've come a long way from hustling in bars for tips--and it really makes me think about what all this means."
Chesney was originally due to perform a full set at the festival on Friday night (6/6), but had to juggle his schedule in order to accommodate production issues for his headlining performance at Saturday's "Back Where I Come From Party III" festival in Knoxville, which airs on CMT in August. There, Chesney tops off a main-stage roster that also includes the Warren Brothers, Deana Carter, Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, and Brooks & Dunn.
"When you're doing something with a huge budget, there are things I guess you don't anticipate," he said of the scheduling change. "We thought we had everything planned out, but with some developments yesterday [5/29], we just can't get the schedules to sync up with what's come up.
Last month, Chesney picked up ACM awards for Top Male Vocalist and Record of the Year (for the song "The Good Stuff"). The track is featured on Chesney's "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems," which surfaced in May of 2002 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
The singer's 2002 outing was the highest-grossing country tour of the year, according to Billboard, and Pollstar recently named Chesney the top ticket-seller of 2003's first quarter.
