Peter Frampton sets album release date, extends tour
Peter Frampton has nailed down an August release date for his first new studio album in nine years, and has tacked more dates onto his summer tour schedule.
Frampton is due to kick off his outing on July 4, and dates now run non-stop through mid September. The guitarist-singer has also penciled in a lone October date.
Members of Frampton's fan club will get a shot at ticket pre-sales for some dates, according to Frampton's website.
Titled "Now," Frampton's new album is due in stores on Aug. 26. The first single, "Verge of a Thing," ships to rock radio on Aug. 1, according to Frampton's publicist.
Frampton recorded and mixed the new album's 11 tracks at his home studio in Cincinnati. The set includes nine new originals, as well as a cover of the late George Harrison's "My Guitar Gently Weeps," and the track "Hour of Need," which Frampton first wrote and recorded for the 2001 Cameron Crowe film "Almost Famous."
Frampton is best known for his 1976 live set, "Frampton Comes Alive!" The album--which featured the singles "Baby I Love Your Way" and "Show Me the Way"--rocketed to the top of the album chart, and is the top-selling live rock album ever.
In a 2001 interview with liveDaily, Frampton spoke about the sudden rise to stardom.
"It was scary, and the best thing that could have happened to me," he said. "It was well and good when the album was number one. It was a dream, and a dream come true."
