Lyle Lovett readies his Large Band for summer road trip

Lyle Lovett --who has been on the road as of late with fellow singer-songwriters John Hiatt, Guy Clark and Joe Ely--will set out next month on a headlining run with his Large Band.

Lovett, whose outing with Hiatt, Clark and Ely ends on Tuesday (5/26), will return to the road in late June to hit outdoor venues throughout the U.S. Dates for the run currently stretch into mid August.

Lovett's Large Band is a 16-piece ensemble whose instruments include guitar, bass, mandolin, keyboards, fiddle and several horns.

In March, during an appearance at the South by Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas, Lovett said that he expects in September to release his first new studio album since 1996's GRAMMY®-winning "Road to Ensenada." No other details have surfaced.

In February, Lovett released "Smile," a collection of 12 songs that he recorded for various movie soundtracks during the past decade.
His most-recent original work, meanwhile, can be found on 2000's score for the Robert Altman-directed film "Dr. T & the Women." Lovett composed and produced the set's 13 instrumental tracks, and also contributed previously unreleased versions of his songs "You've Been So Good Up to Now" and "She's Already Made Up Her Mind" (both from 1992's "Joshua Judges Ruth") and a remake of "Ain't It Something" (from 1994's "I Love Everybody")

Lovett's 1989 album "Lyle Lovett & His Large Band" earned him a GRAMMY in the Best Country Vocal Performance, Male, category.
