50 Cent's 'Family Day' postponed indefinitely

50 Cent 's "40 Day" event, also known as "Family Day," did not happen on Sunday (8/30) as scheduled because the City of New York did not grand the necessary permits, according to MTV News. The event, which was scheduled to be held in 50's former South Jamaica, Queens, neighborhood, has been postponed indefinitely

The festival, sponsored by 50 and Bette Midler , was to feature food and festivities geared toward families. Despite the fact that the rapper was not expected to perform, the New York Post quoted an anonymous source who said "police brass were worried that a rival or punk out to make a name for himself would try to shoot Fitty during the performance."

The rapper spoke with Mayor Michael Bloomberg prior to the weekend and assured officials he would not be performing, MTV News reported. Bloomberg reportedly confirmed he talked with 50 and indicated the event would go forward as scheduled.

However, the day before the scheduled event, 50's G-Unity Foundation and New York Restoration Project issued a statement to MTV News saying they were deeply saddened and disappointed to learn that the permit was not granted by the city.

The weekend had been planned as a gesture of altruism for residents of 50's former neighborhood. On Saturday, the rapper was busing a number of residents from the neighborhood to New Jersey for a day at Six Flags Great Adventures amusement park, followed by a 50 performance.

"40 Day," named after the "40 Projects" South Jamaica Housing development, was expected to cap the philanthropic festivities with music, food, amusement park rids and a number of 50's celebrity friends mingling with the neighborhood folks.
