David Gahan readies new solo album and tour
Depeche Mode frontman David Gahan goes it alone this summer during a North American tour that supports his first solo album.
Gahan, after touring Europe during June and the first half of July, heads across the pond for a round of U.S. and Canadian club and theater dates that run from mid July through the end of August.
Titled "Paper Monsters," Gahan's debut solo album is due in stores on June 2. Its first single, "Dirty Sticky Floors," is scheduled to surface on May 26.
Gahan wrote and recorded the album's 10 tracks with Knox Chandler, whom Gahan's bio refers to as "a multi-instrumentalist friend from New York." Ken Thomas produced the set.
Gahan said in a recent statement that he went into the recording process hoping to make an uplifting album, a goal that he said Thomas helped him achieve.
"What really hit me most was how happy and fulfilled it made me feel," he said. "I wanted to hear something that makes me feel good. That's been the train of thought throughout this record, and Ken's been really great with that."
Gahan's new website features the album's artwork and track listing, as well as streaming samples--three of which are full-length--of all of the album's cuts.
Depeche Mode--whose most-recent studio album is 2001's "Exciter"--is on hiatus while Gahan and fellow members Martin Gore and Andrew Fletcher work on their own projects. Gore released his first full-length solo album, "Counterfeit 2," in late April, while Fletcher is staying busy with his new record label, Toast Hawaii.
