Hootie and the Blowfish kick off tour behind new album

Hootie and the Blowfish back their recently released studio album--which is their first in nearly five years--with a U.S. tour that will keep the group on the road non-stop through the end of August.

The band also has a couple of state-fair performances lined up in October.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters will co-headline a number of the upcoming dates, according to Hootie and the Blowfish's website. The site features the specific dates on which the group will appear.

Hootie and the Blowfish's tour supports their latest, self-titled release, which surfaced in early March. The album is the group's first new studio set since 1998's "Musical Chairs."

In the interim, the Columbia, S.C.-based band released an odds-and-ends set of material culled from its vault, titled "Scattered, Smothered and Covered," and frontman Darius Rucker released his first solo album, "Back to Then."

Hootie and the Blowfish's 1994 debut, "Cracked Rear View," remains their most successful release to date. The album--which features the hit singles "Hold My Hand," "Let Her Cry" and "Only Wanna Be with You" is multi-platinum certified for shipping 16 million copies in the U.S.
