Briefly: Tim McGraw, The Rolling Stones, London Suede, George Strait, Guided by Voices
Country star Tim McGraw and his band the Dancehall Doctors will play a free May 21 concert for military personnel and their families in the Colorado Springs, Colo., area.
The Rolling Stones have called off a planned Aug. 12 concert in Zagreb, Croatia--the second announcement of a Stones cancellation in the former Yugoslavia in as many days. Insurance could not be obtained for the event, promoters said in a statement.
London Suede are currently in the studio working on new tracks for a greatest-hits package that will be issued this fall, according to the group's publicist. The British group--known simply as Suede outside the U.S.--will pave the way for the album's release by touring the European festival circuit this summer.
The release date for "Honkytonkville," the latest album from George Strait , has been moved up two weeks to June 10.
Strait and his longtime collaborator Tony Brown co-produced the disc. Among the writers whose songs were selected for the album are Bruce Robison and Monte Warden ("Desperately"), Anthony Smith and Bob DiPiero ("Cowboys Like Us"), Jim Lauderdale and John Scott Sherrill ("She Used To Say That To Me") and Buddy Brock, Dean Dillon and Kim Williams (the title track).
Indie-rock stalwarts Guided by Voices will release a new album via Matador titled "Earthquake Glue" on Aug. 19, according to the group's website. The band produced the 14 of the album's 15 tracks with Todd Tobias. Steve Albini recorded the other.
