Iron Maiden sets up summer tour with Dio and Motorhead
Iron Maiden follows the June release of its new career-retrospective DVD with a North American outing that kicks off in late July.
Fellow British metal vets Dio and Motorhead will tag along for the run, which is set to touch down at amphitheatres throughout the U.S. and Canada. Dates currently stretch through the end of August.
Before heading across the pond, Iron Maiden will spend late May and most of June headlining a number of European rock festivals; details are posted at the band's website. In the midst of that run, the group will issue "Visions of the Beast," a DVD that is "the definitive chronicle of Iron Maiden through the years," according to a press release. The video, which is due in stores on June 2, features all 31 of the group's music videos, never-before-seen Camp Chaos-animated versions of six classic tracks, interactive menus and discographies, and some "special hidden extras."
Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, in a recent statement, talked about the tour--dubbed the "Give Me Ed ... 'Til I'm Dead" tour, a nod to the band's longtime, corpse-like mascot--and the group's plans for a new album, which will be its first new studio set since 2000's "Brave New World."
"This tour is all about having fun as the name suggests," he said. "We love summer and we love playing big shows. We are going to be playing a lot of our favorite Maiden songs and many people know we've got a new album in the pipeline for later this year so perhaps we'll be playing a new song or two, but basically it will be full on Maiden!"
The new album will surface in September, though the group hasn't announced a specific date.
Iron Maiden released its self-titled debut in 1980. The group has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, according to its website.
The most-recent studio sets from Motorhead and Dio are last year's "Hammered" and "Killing the Dragon," respectively.
