Beach Boys continue tour, ready new hits album

The Beach Boys ' touring lineup--anchored by founding member Mike Love and longtime member Bruce Johnston--will remain on the road well into the fall.

The group has filled in a number of the blanks in its lengthy itinerary, which stretches into October. The band's travel plans include an Oct. 14 performance in the Virgin Islands, part of a special cruise event dubbed the Kokomo Cruise. More information about the event is posted at the band's website.

On June 10, Capitol Records will issue "Sounds of Summer: The Very Best of the Beach Boys." The set contains 30 of the group's best-known hits, which include 13 tracks that made it into the Top 10 and four No. 1 singles. Featured cuts include "I Get Around," "Help Me, Rhonda," "Good Vibrations" and "Kokomo."

"It’s fantastic to look out on our concert audiences in the year 2003, the 40th anniversary of 'Surfin’ USA,' and see the faces of thousands of happy people basking in the sounds of summer," Love said in a statement. "It's so great to see kids from 8 to 80 appreciating the good vibrations through the generations."

In conjunction with the release of "Sounds of Summer," ABC-TV on June 14th will re-air the made-for-television film "The Beach Boys: An American Family."

Though touring under the Beach Boys moniker, the group's only remaining original member is Love, who licensed the group's name for this tour, according to the band's official fan club website.
Johnston is the only other holdover from the band's mid-'60s glory days; in late 1964, he joined as a touring member after cofounder Brian Wilson announced that he was retiring from live performances.

In early March, Eagle Records released "Live at Knebworth," which captures the original Beach Boys lineup's final U.K. performance. A companion DVD/VHS-video version was released in late March.
