The B-52's return to the summer tour circuit
The group celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2002 by releasing the anthology album "Time Capsule - Songs for a Future Generation," a set that includes three new tracks.
Also in celebration of the group's silver anniversary, "The B-52's Universe"--a book by the group's former fan club leader Mats Sexton--was issued last year. The limited edition, 232-page book includes photos, a biography section for each group member, a band history, and a discography. More information is available at the book's website.
The B-52's became core members of the late-'70s and early-'80s new-wave movement with the release of their self-titled, 1979 debut. Thanks to the party anthems "Rock Lobster," "Planet Claire" and "52 Girls," it sold more than 500,000 copies.
In 1989, the group reached its popular peak with the release of the four-million selling album "Cosmic Thing," which netted the hits "Love Shack," "Roam" and "Deadbeat Club.
The B-52's took their name from the Southern slang for exaggerated "bouffant" hairdos--not from the military airplane--but that didn't stop some radio and TV outlets from removing the group from playlists during the U.S.'s war with Iraq.
