Wilco makes new EP available for free download

Wilco is offering fans a free, downloadable version of an EP that the group initially released as a bonus disc with the Australian version of its critically acclaimed 2002 album, "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot."

The EP's six tracks include an alternate version of the "Foxtrot" track "Kamera" (retitled "Camera" on the EP) and the "Foxtrot" outtake "A Magazine Called Sunset," as well as "Bob Dylan's 49th Beard," "Handshake Drugs," "Woodgrain" and "More Like the Moon."

Fans who own "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" can download the EP's six tracks by inserting the CD into a computer's CD-ROM drive, clicking on the "wilcoworld.net" link in the QuickTime movie, and following the instructions from there. More information is available at the band's official website.

Three different versions of artwork for the EP are also available for download, each with a separate title: "Australian EP," "Bridge" and "More Like the Moon."

The band had initially planned to release the EP commercially in the U.S., but evidently has scrapped those plans.

In the summer of 2001, after Reprise Records rejected "Foxtrot," Wilco bought back the rights to the album and began streaming it via the group's website. Frontman Jeff Tweedy and his band had little trouble finding a new home at Nonesuch Records, and a number of critics touted "Foxtrot" as one of the 2002's best. The album debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 chart last May.

Wilco's spring and summer tour plans so far include some club dates and festival shows, a handful of appearances with Sonic Youth, and a stint in support of R.E.M.
