Four new 'Live Phish' sets on the way in May

The next four volumes of the "Live Phish " series are scheduled to hit stores on May 20. The new sets, each of which features a single Phish concert in its entirety, bring the total number of "Live Phish" releases to 20.

According to an announcement posted on the Vermont jam band's website, the latest "Live Phish" recordings were selected by bassist Mike Gordon, who chose the concerts based on his journal entries for more than 1,000 Phish concerts between 1983 and 2000.

"Live Phish 17," a three-CD set, was recorded in Portland, Ore., in June of 1998. Some filler on disc three was recorded in Missouri later that month.

The three-disc "Live Phish 18" set was recorded in Dallas in May of 1994, and includes additional material from a January 1994 show in Columbia, Mo.

"Live Phish 19" was recorded in Keene, N.H., in July of 1991, and spans two CDs. The show was part of Phish's "Horn Tour," featuring the Giant Country Horns.

Finally, the two-disc "Live Phish 20" was recorded in December of 1994 in Providence, R.I.

The "Live Phish" series began with six releases in the fall of 2001, and the band has since released two additional batches of concerts each year. The group has begun to make all of its recent live performances available for purchase or download via its livephish.com website.

Phish is scheduled to open a new summer tour on July 7 in Phoenix. Frontman and guitarist Trey Anastasio takes his solo band on the road in May.
