R. Kelly's 'Soldier's Heart' single gets new life

Radio stations are rediscovering the R. Kelly track "Soldier's Heart," which was recorded and released a year ago as a tribute to U.S. troops fighting in Afghanistan.

Kelly wrote, produced, and first performed the track early in 2002. It was released last April, when Kelly, his label, and his publisher pledged to donate all profits from the single to charities supporting the families of soldiers.

The single didn't gain much notice at that time, but radio programmers recently began flocking to the song because of the war in Iraq.

According to Jive Records, in recent weeks, "Soldier's Heart" has been played by stations in every major market in the country, including New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Miami and Boston.

"My respect and admiration for our men and women in uniform has only grown since I first wrote and recorded 'Soldier's Heart,' " Kelly said in a statement. "It's a great feeling to know that at this difficult time so many people find comfort and uplift in its words and music."

The embattled R&B star is awaiting trial in Cook County, Ill., on 21 child pornography counts stemming from a videotape allegedly showing him engaging in sex acts with a minor.
