Ben Harper drops new album, links with Jack Johnson
Harper launches the album--which arrives in stores on Tuesday (3/11)--with Monday-night (3/10) appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman," and a release-day solo performance at New York City's 575-capacity Bowery Ballroom.
After a subsequent tour of Australia and New Zealand--which stretches from late March through late April--Harper returns to the U.S. and teams with his band, the Innocent Criminals, for a spring road trip.
Harper and the Innocent Criminals have also started to pencil in dates for their summer tour, which Harper will bookend with two lengthy rounds of co-headlining performances with fellow singer-songwriter Johnson.
Johnson, a Hawaiian native and former professional surfer, is due to release a new album titled "On and On" on May 6. The album follows Johnson's 2001 debut, "Brushfire Fairytales," on which Harper played steel guitar.
"Diamonds on the Inside," which features 14 new songs, is Harper's first studio album since 1999's "Burn to Shine." The new album's track "With My Own Two Hands" is streaming at Harper's website.
The new album is the follow-up to 2001's "Live from Mars," a 25-song, two-CD set culled from two-years'-worth of shows. The first disc features Harper and the Innocent Criminals, while the second features solo-acoustic performances.
