Zwan pumps up spring tour schedule
The run, which kicks off later this month, now runs through mid April. Tickets for most dates are on sale now, while tickets for the group's stops in Pompano Beach, Fla., and Houston are set to hit the box office on Friday (3/7).
Fronted by vocalist-guitarist Corgan, Zwan also features former Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, guitarist-vocalist Matt Sweeny (Chavez), bassist-vocalist Paz Lenchantin (A Perfect Circle) and guitarist David Pajo (Slint, Papa M).
"Mary Star of the Sea" arrived in stores in late January. The entire set is streaming at Zwan's website.
Zwan began work on "Mary Star of the Sea" last May and wrapped things up in November. Corgan co-produced the set with Bjorn Thorsund, and both co-producers mixed the album with Alan Moulder.
Corgan, in a message recently posted at Zwan's website, reassured fans--some of whom have apparently said that the group's album sounds very distorted--that the distorted effect is intentional.
"Recently, some concerns have come to light regarding the 'sound' of the album, and there seems to be confusion about whether or not there is a problem, which is understandable in the warm 'digital' age," said Corgan. "So from my mouth to your ear, here's the deal: We set out to make the loudest f---ing rock and roll album that was humanly possible. No detail was too small, and by that I mean that everything, and I mean everything on the album is distorted by yours truly.
"I became obsessed by the sound of the great mono albums of the sixties, whether it be Dusty Springfield, the Walker Brothers, the Stones, the Who, the Kinks, etc. and their compressed excitement.
"So if our album is blowing up your speakers or making your dog cry, I can't say I'm sorry, but I do apologize for any worries this may have caused. 'Mary Star of the Sea' uses everything but the kitchen sink in the analog or digital domain to push the sound of Zwan past the blur into something that feels fresh and exciting, and most importantly, LOUD at any volume. So crank it up, and sit back and enjoy what it sounds like for us on stage in the overdriven glory."
