The Eagles unveil tour plans and new fan club
The Eagles , who last summer toured the U.S. for the first time in more than six years, hit the road again this summer for a run dubbed the "Farewell I" tour.
The news of the group's latest outing coincides with the launch of its new official fan club, which is a joint venture between web-portal Yahoo! and the band. An annual membership costs $60.
Membership benefits include access to ticket pre-sales for the upcoming tour. Only a handful of tour dates have been announced thus far, for which the first pre-sale began on Thursday (2/27). Additional tour dates will be announced on Monday (3/3).
In addition to pre-sale access, benefits also include exclusive audio and video content, contests to win signed guitars and members-only downloads, according details posted at the fan-club's website.
A source indicates that the tour has been dubbed the "Farewell I" tour in jest, and that the title instead alludes to the likelihood of subsequent outings.
Last summer, the Eagles executed a 30-city U.S. tour that ran from May through late July. The handful of dates released thus far for the "Farewell I" tour indicates a similar timetable.
Last March, singer-drummer Don Henley said that the Eagles were working on their first collection of new material since 1979's "The Long Run." A spokesperson for the group said that the group still hasn't finished the album.
Over the course of their three-decade career, the Eagles have sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, and have garnered four No. 1 U.S. singles and four Grammy Awards, according to the group's publicist. Their hits compilation, "Greatest Hits 1971-1975," which has sold over 27 million copies, is the top-selling album of all time in the U.S.
The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
