Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park nail down initial tour dates

Dates are beginning to surface for Metallica 's second Summer Sanitarium Tour, which is now set to kick off at Detroit's Pontiac Silverdome on the Fourth of July.

Venues and dates for more than a half-dozen tour stops have now been confirmed, and tickets for most of those are due to hit the box office on Saturday (2/22), according to Metallica's website.

Confirmed dates and venues are still pending for Philadelphia, New York, Montreal, Houston, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto, Washington D.C./Baltimore, Chicago and Atlanta.

Headliners Metallica, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park --each of which will perform a full-length set on all tour stops--will all be supporting new albums during the outing. Metallica's "St. Anger"--the group's first collection of new material in six years--is due out on June 10, Limp Bizkit's "Lessismore" is expected sometime in May, and Linkin Park's "Meteora" lands in stores on March 25.

In addition to its three headliners, the Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003 roster also features Illinois rock-quartet Mudvayne --which continues to tour behind last year's "The End of All Things To Come"-- and the Deftones, who are putting the finishing touches on their as-yet-untitled fourth album, due out in June.
