Club dates ahead for Frank Black and the Catholics

As two reissued albums find their way into stores, rockers Frank Black and the Catholics are set to embark on a club tour that gets underway in late February.

SpinArt Records recently released "Oddballs," a rarities collection previously available in the U.S. only as an import. The set includes "Man Of Steel" from the "X-Files" soundtrack, covers of Roxy Music's "Remake/Remodel" and The Beau Brummels' "Just a Little," and B-sides previously unavailable in the U.S., according to SpinArt.

A SpinArt reissue of the group's 2001 album "Dog in the Sand," which includes four tracks that didn't appear on the original release, is also in stores now.

Last August, the always-prolific Black simultaneously released two new studio albums: Black Letter Days" and "Devil's Workshop."

Black is best known as the frontman of alt-rock legends the Pixies (at that time, Black--whose real name is Charles Thompson--went by the moniker Black Francis). After releasing three major-label solo albums in the '90s, Black went indie and released the first Frank Black and the Catholics album in 1998.

That studio album--and the four that followed--was recorded live to two-track tape. According to his label biography, Black says he'll never go back to multi-tracking again because the live-to-tape method frees him to "just play the song the way it was meant to be played and heard."
