Metallica, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park join forces for summer tour
Metallica , Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park --each of which is due to release a new album in the coming months-- will hit the road together this summer for a U.S. tour.
The outing is scheduled to kick off on July 4, and tickets for most of the shows will go on sale on Feb. 22, according to organizers. So far, organizers have announced only a preliminary list of cities in which the tour--dubbed the Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003--will touch down.
Veteran metal act Metallica will be supporting a new album titled "St. Anger," which is due in stores on June 10. The set will be the band's first collection of new studio material since 1997's "Reload," and will also mark the group's first album since the early-2001 departure of longtime bassist Jason Newsted.
Producer Bob Rock, who has worked with Metallica on all of the group's albums since 1991's "Metallica"--also known as "The Black Album"--stepped in to play bass on the new record, but is not expected to tour with the group.
Metallica has been documenting the making of its new album via a series of videos, photos and messages posted at its official website.
Limp Bizkit tentatively plans to release "Lessismore," the follow-up to 2000's "Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water," in May. The album is the band's first without founding guitarist Wes Borland.
Linkin Park has spent the past 18 months putting together a new album titled "Meteora," which is scheduled to hit the shelves on March 25. The album's predecessor, "Hybrid Theory," was the top-selling album of 2001 with sales of more than 8 million copies that year.
The Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003 will also feature Illinois rock-quartet Mudvayne --who continue to tour behind last year's "The End of All Things To Come"-- and the Deftones, who are currently putting the finishing touches on their as-yet-untitled fourth album, due out in June..
Metallica's first Summer Sanitarium Tour took place in 2000, and also featured Korn, Kid rock, System of a Down and Powerman 5000.
The tour is tentatively set to touch down in the following markets; specific dates and venues hadn't been announced at press time:
