Briefly: Billy Joel and Elton John reschedule Boston date
plus: Universal reissues Velvet Underground, Commodores albums. Dick Clark Productions sold. Nick Carter: the early years.
Billy Joel and Elton John , who postponed a Feb. 2 show at the FleetCenter in Boston because Joel was ill, have rescheduled the show for April 3. Tickets from Feb. 2 will be honored on the new date.
Universal is reissuing "The Velvet Underground & Nico" on March 5 with a previously unreleased track. Other forthcoming Universal reissues include the Commodores' 1977 double-LP "Commodores Live!" (March 26) and a remastered and expanded version of Procol Harum's "Live in Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Da Camera."
The label has also announced release dates for two additions to its 20th Century Masters/The Millennium Collection series: "The Best of Con Funk Shun" (March 19) and "The Best of Dixie Dregs (March 26).
A group of investors has purchased Dick Clark Productions for $140 million. According to Reuters, "One source familiar with the deal said it was prompted in part by [the 72-year-old] Clark's desire to reduce his day-to-day responsibility for the company."
Hip-O records releases "Nick Carter: Before the 'Boys' 1989-1993" on March 26. According to a press release, the album gathered the Backstreet Boys singer's "early efforts, the recordings that eventually helped him land a gig in one of the world's top singing groups."
The album's 14 songs "span Nick's progress from the age of nine to 13, a period which culminated with him singing at Tampa Bay Buccaneers halftime shows and the Florida State Fair."
