The Who sets tour dates, on-sales for summer U.S. outing
After a 19-month break from touring, the Who will return to the road this summer for a U.S. tour. The group also plans to hit the studio to record its first batch of new material in 20 years.
On-sale dates are set for all but two of the group's upcoming U.S. stops, according to bassist John Entwistle's official website. First up are tickets for the band's July Boston-area performance, for which an Internet pre-sale is set to begin on Tuesday (2/12) and a general on-sale set to follow on Friday (2/15).
Tickets for a number of other dates will surface on Sunday (2/17), including those for the group's June 28 kick-off at the Joint, a 2,000-person capacity club located inside Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
Though the group has no plans to offer up a new release prior to the outing, the members are planning to head into the studio in October to record their first batch of new material since 1982's "It's Hard" (MCA), according to management.
Last week, the Who performed on Thursday (2/7) and Friday (2/8) at London's Royal Albert Hall as part of a five-night series of concerts that benefited London's Teenage Cancer Trust. The group's performance at the trust's November 2000 benefit was released on DVD last year.
In preparation for last week's benefit performances, the Who played several late January dates in the U.K.
Last October, the Who performed four songs at New York City's Madison Square Garden as part of the Concert for New York benefit. Three of those songs--"Who Are You," "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again"--appear on the two-disc "Concert for New York" audio compilation. The companion DVD, meanwhile, features those three songs, as well as the group's performance of "Behind Blue Eyes."
