Alicia Keys tops Soul Train Music Awards nominees

Alicia Keys picked up nods in four categories, including Best Soul Album and Best New Soul Artist, at the announcement of the 16th Annual Soul Train Music Awards nominees on Thursday (2/7). Trailing closely behind were India.Arie and the late singer Aaliyah with three nominations apiece.

Keys will also be honored with the 2002 Sammy Davis Jr. Female Entertainer of the Year award.

Soul Train Awards winners will be announced during a March 20 ceremony at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with the show slated to be taped for a later broadcast. Yolanda Adams, Faith Evans, Soul Train host Shemar Moore and Arsenio Hall will share hosting duties.

During the ceremony, the O'Jays will be presented with the 2002 Quincy Jones Award for Outstanding Career Achievements, while rapper-producer Dr. Dre will be feted with the 2002 Sammy Davis Jr. Male Entertainer of the Year honor.

As a first-time event, a Soul Train Music Awards nominees disc is set for release March 26th. Soul Train founder and former host Don Cornelius said of the planned disc, “We continue to marvel over the incredibly right on selections delivered by our Soul Train Music Awards voters each year.”
