REO Speedwagon and Styx add more dates to co-headlining run

While most of the '70s' rock elite only show up on VH1's "Behind the Music," REO Speedwagon [ tickets ] and Styx [ tickets ] are adding more dates their third joint tour, which kicks off next month.

The new dates for the groups include a number of dates playing amusement parks, fairs and festivals during the summer months, as well as revisiting some strongholds where the package tour did well last year. Ticket prices are expected to be comparable to their 2001 outing, ranging from $25 to $37.50.

As has been the case in previous years, both bands will play for 75-90 minutes, alternating the headlining slot.

The two bands first teamed up in the summer of 2000 for a 30-show tour that ended up grossing $6.6 million dollars, averaging 10,000 tickets sold per night. That outing spawned a joint live album titled, "Arch Allies" (Sanctuary).

Last year, REO (who topped the album charts in 1981 with "Hi Infidelity") released "Live: Plus," while Styx (who topped the 1979 Gallup Poll for the most popular rock band) put out two discs last year--a studio album, "Yesterday and Today," and "Styx World: Live 2001."

Together, the bands have sold more than 65 million albums, and had more than 30 hits over the past three decades.

Prior to and following their joint go-round, both bands will headline a series of their own shows.
