Rob Zombie plots lengthy spring solo outing
Rob Zombie , who last fall toured the U.S. with heavy-metal godfather Ozzy Osbourne, will launch his own extensive North American solo run in early March. Fellow rock acts Sinisstar and the Damned will open on all dates.
Tickets for a number of dates, including the tour kick-off in Houston, hit the box office on Saturday (1/19), according to Zombie's official website. The majority of subsequent on-sales are set for Jan. 26. Details appear in the itinerary below.
Prior to the start of his headlining run, Zombie is scheduled to perform at the Los Angeles Sports Arena on Feb. 26 as part of a multi-venue benefit being held to raise funds for the Recording Artists Coalition. Recent Merry Mayhem tour mate Osbourne and fellow metal act Korn (whom Zombie opened for during that group's 1998 tour) will also perform at the benefit.
Zombie is touring in support of his sophomore solo release, last November's "The Sinister Urge" (Geffen). The album, which sits at No. 71 on the latest Billboard 200 album chart, has sold about 520,000 copies, according to industry sources.
The music video for Zombie's latest single, "Never Gonna Stop," recently began airing on MTV and can be viewed at Zombie's website. Also, Zombie's home will be featured on the Jan. 23 episode of MTV's "Cribs."
Currently on break between tours, Zombie is continuing work on his first feature film, "House of 1000 Corpses," to which he is adding new scenes, and for which he is recording a soundtrack.
Universal Films was originally due to release "House of 1000 Corpses," but the studio backed out after deeming the flick "too intense." The film's plot reportedly involves a young couple whose car breaks down in a town filled with "homicidal slashers" who subsequently torture and kill the pair. A release date has not been set.
Zombie will also use his current downtime to record "Blitzkrieg Bop" for a forthcoming Ramones tribute album, according to his website.
