Weezer to finish work on new album, hit the road
Currently in the studio, Weezer will head back out next month for a round of North American concerts. The group plans to finish work on its fourth album before the outing begins.
Tickets will be released to the general public on either Friday (1/11) or Saturday (1/12) (see below), but an online pre-sale for all dates launches on Wednesday (1/9), according to Weezer's official website. Details on obtaining a password for access to the pre-sale are available at the website.
In addition to the headlining dates, Weezer is also scheduled to perform in Long Beach, Calif., at a Feb. 26 benefit for the Recording Artists Coalition; they will share the stage with No Doubt and the Offspring. The event is one of several high-profile Southern California concerts to benefit the coalition.
After finishing the upcoming final leg of its U.S. tour, Weezer plans to tour Europe in March and Japan in May.
Last May, Weezer released its self-titled third album--also known as the "Green Album" (Geffen)--which spawned the alt-rock-radio hit "Hash Pipe." The song peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart, while the album, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 album chart, has sold about 1.2 million copies to date, according to industry sources.
The group plans to release its fourth album in April, according to its website. Downloadable MP3 files of 12 finished song demos for the album are available in the audio-video section of the website.
Last month, the band wrapped up a tour with Tenacious D.
