Briefly: Michael Jackson and the AMAs, Celine Dion
plus: KRS-One's 10th album due this month. Get the Knack (again). Ginuwine impersonator indicted. Grammy nominations on the way.
Michael Jackson will appear on the American Music Awards to accept his Artist of the Century Award, but will not perform, according to Sonicnet. AMA producer Dick Clark reportedly still plans to go forward with a $10 million lawsuit against Recording Academy President and CEO Michael Greene, who allegedly forced Jackson to back out of an agreement to perform on the AMAs.
Celine Dion will precede the March release of "A New Day Has Come" (Epic), her first English-language studio album in almost five years, with a one-hour network television special, Billboard Bulletin reported. The special is slated to air one week before the album's March 11 release date.
Dion's album release comes one year before the March 2003 opening of her residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, where she is scheduled to perform 200 shows per year.
"Spiritual Minded," KRS-One's 10th album, is scheduled for a Jan. 22 release. According to Koch Records, the album has a gospel edge.
Capitol Records will reissue the first four albums by the Knack--1979's "Get the Knack," 1980's "But the Little Girls Understand," 1981's "Round Trip" and 1991's "Serious Fun"--on April 23.
Ronrico Madison, a Minnesota resident accused of impersonating R&B stars DeVante Swing (of Jodeci) and Ginuwine, has been indicted on federal charges of mail and wire fraud, according to published reports. Madison was arrested on Dec. 13 in St. Paul.
The nominees for the 44th Annual Grammy Awards will be announced on Friday (1/4). The awards are scheduled to take place on Feb. 27 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
