Ani DiFranco begins plotting 2002 tour dates

Ani DiFranco , who spent much of this year on the road, has made plans to head back out in late February.

Prior to that tour, DiFranco will perform along with several other artists in Washington, D.C., at a Jan. 19 benefit organized by Voters for Choice, a pro-choice organization that planned the event to coincide with the 29th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. DiFranco has long been an outspoken political and social activist.

She completed a fall tour in October, during which she began reciting in concert a poem she wrote that was inspired by the Sept. 11 attacks, according to her label, Righteous Babe. The poem has since been posted on Righteous Babe's official website.

Righteous Babe, an indie label founded by DiFranco, released her two-disc set, "Reveling/Reckoning" last April. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart. Half of the album's material features DiFranco performing solo, while the other half features her backed by her band, as well as guests such as Maceo Parker, Jon Hassell and Lloyd Maines.
