Concrete Blonde regroups for club tour, album
The newly reunited Concrete Blonde has mapped out a tour in support of its forthcoming album, "Group Therapy," due on Jan. 15.
The band, with three original members--singer-bassist Johnette Napolitano, guitarist Jim Mankey and drummer Harry Rushakoff--will kick off the jaunt on Jan. 18 in San Diego. The itinerary currently runs through Feb. 21, but more dates are expected to be added soon.
Recorded in Los Angeles, "Group Therapy" (Manifesto) is the band's first album of new material since 1993's "Mexican Moon" (Capitol). Concrete Blonde, best known for its hits "Joey," "Tomorrow Wendy" and "Everybody Knows," released five major-label albums before disbanding in 1995.
Since then, Napolitano has concentrated on art and performing solo. "Greatest Hits," a multi-media installation, is on display through Dec. 20 at the LH Horton Jr. Gallery on the campus of San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, Calif. The show, which a press release from the gallery calls her debut solo exhibition, incorporates turntables and speakers used as a canvas.
Napolitano and Mankey, formerly of Sparks, also recorded an album with the Los Angeles band Los Illegals in 1997. In 1996, Rushakoff and Jimmer Podrasky of the Rave-Ups put together the Miserys.
