Cheap Trick sets headlining tour, opening run for Aerosmith
Influential rock group Cheap Trick has scheduled a month's worth of tour dates, including a stint opening for Aerosmith on its arena jaunt.
Cheap Trick--vocalist Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson and drummer Bun E. Carlos--will play three shows in and around its hometown of Rockford, Ill., in late December--including a New Year's Eve show at Navy Pier Grand Ballroom in Chicago. On Jan. 5, it plays the first of six dates with Aerosmith. (In October, Cheap Trick's Nielsen played "I'm Down" and "Train Kept a Rollin'" with Aerosmith at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.)
The itinerary also includes two performances as part of the All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival in Camber Sands, England.
This fall, Cheap Trick released "Silver," a live performance DVD that includes behind-the-scenes footage of the band. It was recorded during its 25th anniversary performance on Aug. 28, 2000, in Rockford, and includes 29 songs. Cheap Trick released an accompanying two-CD set in February on its own label, Cheap Trick Unlimited. Everclear's Art Alexaksis and former Smashing Pumpkins' frontman Billy Corgan make guest appearances on the record.
