Artists Prepare For Millennium Concerts

Portions of New Year's Eve concerts by Sting , Phil Collins , 'N Sync, Santana , Jean Michele Jarre, Maxi Priest and Mike Oldfield will be broadcast live on PAX television stations -- and several other networks around the world -- during a 24-hour telecast.

Dubbed ''Millennium Live... Humanity's Broadcast,'' the program will showcase New Year's Eve celebrations from each of the world's 24 time zones. In the United States, the show will air beginning at 6am EST.

Sting is scheduled to play New Year's Eve at New York's Jacob Javits Center, 'N Sync is booked to play at Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu, and Santana will be in Las Vegas at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel.

According to his official website, Mike Oldfield is hoping to perform a Millennium concert at London's Jubilee Garden. He is also planning to release his Millennium project -- described as ''a musical rendition of the last 2000 years'' -- at midnight on Dec. 31.

New age artist Jean Michel Jarre is scheduled to perform his New Year's Eve show on the Giza Plateau at the Pyramids in Egypt. Jarre has described the event as a multimedia opera.

The site of Maxi Priest's performance hasn't been announced.

According to a press release issued Thursday (10/7) by PAX TV, producers are in final discussions to include several other artists in the broadcast, including Bryan Adams, Simply Red and Spice Girls.

The program will be co-produced by the Millennium Television Network, which counts Live Aid among its credits.

So far, 110 countries are committed to air the program, which will begin at the Pacific Dateline in Fiji and will travel west across the globe. According to PAX TV, each hour will feature ''celebrities, musical acts, interviews and visions for the future presented by well-known international figures and average people.''
