Charts: Creed holds on to No. 1
Creed 's "Weathered," which debuted in the top slot on the most recent Billboard 200 album chart, will stay put for a second week, as will last week's No. 2 entry, "Now That's What I Call Music! Vol. 8," according to industry sources. The albums will be joined in the Top 10 by debuts from rappers Ludacris and Busta Rhymes.
After selling about 887,000 copies during its first week in stores, "Weathered" (Wind-Up) saw its sales halved to about 417,000 copies during its second week out, according to industry sources. The album has been propelled by Creed's latest hit, "Sacrifice," which has risen to No. 2 on Billboard's latest Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
The latest "Now" compilation (Virgin), which features previously released hits from a number of artists--including Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Destiny's Child, U2, Gorillaz and Sum 41--moved a total of about 353,000 copies in its second week, according to industry sources. The album sold about 549,000 copies in its debut week.
Clocking in with a No. 3 debut is "Word of Mouf" (Def Jam), Ludacris' sophomore effort, which features guest vocals from fellow rappers Twista, Nate Dogg, Jagged Edge and Mystikal. The Atlanta-based Ludacris has scored a hit with "Word of Mouf" track "Roll Out (My Business)," which sits at No. 14 on trade publication Radio & Records' latest Urban airplay chart.
"Scarecrow" (Capitol), the album that country star Garth Brooks has claimed will be his last, spends its second week at No. 4, while Britney Spears' "Britney" (Jive) dips two places to No. 5. The other "Now" compilation album on the chart, "Now That's What I Call Christmas!" (Universal), slips one spot to No. 6 after jumping from No. 15 to No. 5 last week.
"Genesis," Busta Rhymes' first album for J Records, makes a strong first-week showing at No. 7. The album features the singles "As I Come Back" and "Break Ya Neck," which occupy the No. 7 and No. 24 positions, respectively, on Billboard's Hot Rap Singles chart.
Capitalizing on the holiday season is Mannheim Steamroller's "Christmas Extraordinaire" (American Gramaphone), which leaps from No. 15 to No. 8.
Closing out the Top 10 is Enya's "A Day Without Rain" (Reprise), which sinks from No. 6 to No. 9, and Enrique Iglesias' "Escape" (Interscope), which slips from No. 9 to No. 10.
Making a noticeable exit from the Top 10, meanwhile, is Kid Rock's "Cocky" (Atlantic). The Detroit rapper's latest, which debuted at No. 7 last week, slides all the way down to No. 15.
Noteworthy debuts happening further down the chart include "The Concert for New York City" (Columbia) at No. 27 and Smash Mouth's self-titled Interscope release at No. 48.
