Guns N' Roses plan two year-end performances

In addition to canceling tours, delaying album-release dates and hitting the stage much later than scheduled, Guns N' Roses appear to be starting a new tradition. For the second year in a row, the band plans to give a New Year's Eve concert in Las Vegas.

The group has scheduled shows at the Joint--located inside the Hard Rock Hotel--on Dec. 29 and Dec. 31, according to the official Guns N' Roses website. Tickets hit the box office on Saturday (12/10).

In a message posted on the website, frontman Axl Rose--the group's only remaining original member--said, "We've been cooped up in the studio for so long, that we have to release some energy. Since we had so much fun playing Vegas last year, we've decided to do it again."

Last year, Guns N' Roses performed at the Las Vegas House of Blues on New Year's Eve. The group was scheduled to begin its set at 1 a.m., but didn't take the stage until well after 3 a.m., according to published reports.

Earlier this year, the band was due to kick off a European tour in June, but the outing was scrapped when Buckethead, one of the group's two guitarists, fell ill. The jaunt was rescheduled for this month, but was again canceled, this time to allow Rose to complete work on the group's long-delayed album.

Rose has been working for over five years now on that album, the working title for which is "Chinese Democracy." The band's last collection of original material, the two-volume "Use Your Illusion" (Geffen), was released in 1991.

In addition to Rose and Buckethead, Guns N' Roses' lineup comprises guitarist Robin Finck (Nine Inch Nails), bassist Tommy Stinson (the Replacements), drummer Brian "Brain" Mantia (Primus) and keyboardist Dizzy Reed. Reed first played with the group in the early '90s.
