B.B. King lines up post-holiday road work
B.B. King , who is in the midst of a holiday tour, plans to stay on the road well after the season ends. Following a brief New Year's break, the legendary bluesman will return to the road in early January, and has mapped out dates through mid-February.
Also in January, King plans to open the B.B. King Dance Club and B.B. King Nite Club at Connecticut's Foxwoods Resort Casino. The adjoining venues will offer dancing in the larger of the two and jazz, blues and comedy in the smaller of the two. King will mark the opening with a Jan. 11 performance at the resort.
King also has clubs in New York City, Los Angeles and Memphis.
Earlier this month, King kicked off a tour behind "A Christmas Celebration of Hope" (MCA), a 13-track collection comprised of traditional holiday favorites performed with a blues spin, including "Please Come Home for Christmas," "I'll Be Home for Christmas," "Auld Lang Syne" and others. Produced by King, the album also features the original recordings "Christmas Celebration"--which King first released in 1960--and the new instrumental track "Christmas Love."
MCA Records is donating all profits from the sale of the album to City of Hope, a biomedical research and treatment center whose efforts focus on diabetes, gene therapy, cell regeneration, T-cell therapy and cancer drug development, according to a press release.
King also turns up on Tony Bennett's latest album, "Playing With My Friends: Bennett Sings the Blues'' (RPM Records/Columbia), on which he and Bennett sing "Let the Good Times Roll."
Earlier this year, MCA released "Here and There: The Uncollected B.B. King." The album includes duets with Willie Nelson, Albert Collins, Gary Burton and Grover Washington Jr. Next year, King will release a duet album of his own, according to his official website.
