Briefly: Bruce Springsteen surprises at Light of Day show

Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance at the Tradewinds club in Sea Bright, N.J. on Saturday (11/3) during the second annual Light of Day Concert, which benefits the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. The Asbury Park Press reported that Springsteen joined Joe Grushecky and his band, No Spring Chickens, six hours into the concert.

Last year, during the first Light of Day benefit, Springsteen joined Grushecky and the Houserockers at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, N.J.

"Timeless," Barbra Streisand's Fox-TV concert special, won four Emmys on Sunday (11/4), including Best Performance in a Variety or Music Program. She also closed the ceremony with a rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone."

Interscope Records will release "Ali, the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" on Nov. 27. The first single will be "The World's Greatest" by R. Kelly. Among the other artists on the soundtrack are Alicia Keys, Al Green, Aretha Franklin and Everlast.

Also on the soundtrack front, Maverick Records will release the companion album to forthcoming film "Not Another Teen Movie" on Dec. 4. It will feature Marilyn Manson’s rendition of Soft Cell’s "Tainted Love," the Smashing Pumpkins’ cover of Depeche Mode’s "Never Let Me Down Again," Orgy’s version of New Order’s "Blue Monday" and Phantom Planet’s rendition of Jackson Browne’s "Somebody’s Baby."

The U.S. debut of the All Tomorrow's Party Festival, which was postponed in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, has been rescheduled for March 15-17 on the University of California, Los Angeles campus. Acts on the bill include Eddie Vedder, Aphex Twin, Sleater-Kinney, Califone, Sonic Youth , Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Cat Power, Stereolab, Television and others.

Fiddler-guitarist Carroll DesChamps "Champ" Hood died of cancer on Saturday (11/3) in Austin, Texas, the Austin American-Statesman reported. He was a member of the acoustic string trio Uncle Walt's Band with Walter Hyatt and David Ball, and he toured with Kelly Willis and Lyle Lovett, among others.
