Parts of three Garth Brooks concerts to be televised

Garth Brooks , after announcing on Friday (11/3) plans to play his first full-length concert in three years later this month, has now confirmed two additional shows that will also take place before month's end.

One hour from each of the three concerts will be broadcast live on CBS-TV.

Last week, a California radio station revealed that Brooks--whose new album, "Scarecrow" (Capitol), is scheduled for release on Nov. 13--will perform at the Great Western Forum near Los Angeles the following day. Organizers have since announced that he will also perform aboard the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Enterprise--which will be returning to Norfolk, Va., from a mission in the Middle East--on Nov. 21, and at an undisclosed third location on Nov. 28.

CBS will broadcast one hour from each of the performances, according to a press release. All three concerts will feature special guests. Those guests and the location of the Nov. 28 performance will be revealed at a later date, according to organizers.

Tickets for the Nov. 14 concert go on sale on Tuesday (10/6) at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, and will be available through Ticketmaster's pay-by-phone service and Ticketmaster.com. Tickets will not be sold at Ticketmaster retail outlets or at the Forum box office, and will be sold only to Southern California residents, according to Ticketmaster.com. (Ticketmaster is liveDaily's parent company.)

In a statement released on Monday (11/5), Brooks--who last year said that he was retiring from touring--said that broadcasting only a handful of performances will allow him to reach a broad audience while avoiding an extensive road trip.

“I announced last year that I wouldn’t be touring again,” said Brooks. “CBS has given me an opportunity to take the music to the people in a new way, to have the fun of performing it live, and do it in such a way that I don’t have to be away from home for long periods of time.”

The singer's last outing was a massive three-year road-trip comprising 350 shows in 100 cities that ended in November 1998. Even though all tickets were priced at $20 or less, the tour grossed more than $100 million.

Brooks' retirement won't be limited solely to touring; the singer has also claimed that "Scarecrow" will be his last album. "We announced our retirement, and we'll stick to that," Brooks recently told Billboard. "If for some reason we do explore music again, I can only hope we're welcomed back like Michael Jordan or Mario Lemieux."

In addition to his three November concerts, Brooks will perform with fellow country artist George Jones at the 35th annual CMA Awards on Wednesday night (11/7). Brooks also is slated to perform in a production of "Lime Creek Christmas" with actor Anthony Zerbe on Dec. 8 in Sheridan, Wyo., and on Dec. 9 in Nashville. Brooks will play acoustic "Christmas songs and other appropriate music throughout Zerbe's dramatic performance," according to a press release.
