P.O.D. fills in touring blanks
Riding high on the success of its new Top 10 album and current hit single, California rock-rap act P.O.D. kicked off a tour of U.S. theaters last week that now has dates scheduled into early December.
New stops throughout the U.S.--including dates in Austin, Atlanta, Chicago and Seattle--have filled the gaps in the group's November itinerary, and the tour's first Canadian stop has been scheduled in Toronto. A lone December date has also been added to the run, with more dates expected, according to the group's official website.
Released last month, P.O.D.'s new album, "Satellite" (Atlantic), debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 album chart, and is at No. 10 in its fifth week on the chart. The album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Contemporary Christian albums chart, meanwhile, and remains in top slot for the fifth week in a row.
"Satellite" features the hit single "Alive," which has risen to No. 4 on Billboard's latest Modern Rock Tracks chart. The song's music video sits at No. 3 on MTV's Top 20 Videos chart for the week ending Oct. 21, and spent the previous week at No. 1 on that chart.
P.O.D.'s previous release, 1999's "The Fundamental Elements of Southtown," spawned the group's breakthrough hit, "Rock the Party (Off the Hook)"
Opening for P.O.D. on its current trek are Fenix TX, whose "Lechuza" (Drive Thru) dropped in May, and Sweden-based Christian metal group Blindside, whose lead singer, Christian Lindskog, appears on the song "Anything Right" on P.O.D.'s "Satellite." Blindside's "A Thought Crushed My Mind" (Tooth and Nail) was released in early 2000.
